Angst-filled saga about two guys who were made for each other. I would have loved it more if they spent more time together during the story instead of apart. While I loved the characters, including the family and friends, I felt like the relationship wasn't developed enough. Telling each other how much you missed the other person didn't cut it. Half the book is spent with Crick away at war, and Deacon fighting to keep the ranch afloat. They were supposedly best friends, but hardly ever really talked about anything. It was still a beautiful love story, with some truly amazing writing taking place. Just have the Kleenex ready because these poor guys deal with a lot of pain and heartache.
